“Dry kidneys” in cat with kidney failure?

by mardraum_ico

Question by Diana A: “Dry kidneys” in cat with kidney failure?
Neighbor & I took his cat in to be euthanized-she was in kidney failure and for a year, we’d been giving her fluids subcutaneously. When the time came to take her to the vet for that last visit, he made the comment that she had “dry kidneys”-unsure of what he meant besides the fact that her kidneys had finally quit. Anyone else familiar with that term and its meaning? I’m curious. Thank you.

Renal failure
The kidneys no longer produce urine. They don’t function. Death was imminent.

Have you had an ultrasound of your baby and had “slightly large kidneys”?

Question by Awesome Nana: Have you had an ultrasound of your baby and had “slightly large kidneys”?
If you did, what does it mean? The OBGYN was not particularly concerned (whew) so we won’t be either. However, my daughter’s first child was born with Renal Kidney Failure (very small kidneys) so of course, we are just wondering what “slightly larger” could mean.

slightly large kidneys may be do to what is called hydronephrosis- they will keep an eye of the the baby’s kidneys to see how they are functioning for some time. If the doctor says not to worry, I would take it one step at a time. Mom may want to be cautious as to her salt intake, and food intake etc., as a precaution only–never hurts anyways. Causes for this condition are many.
Another cause is that maybe the measurement numbers were off for unknown reasons. These things often happen–whatever the reason, the doctor will keep you informed. Good luck
